A 35 MYO sun-like star 1200 ly away in Vela thought to be forming rocky planets. Spitzer witnessed a giant surge in dust, possibly caused by the collision of two asteroids. The first detection of a planetary impact outside the solar system. It is not known if there are any outer gaseous planets or cometary belts.
