The earliest industry of the Upper Palaeolithic. It was contested whether this was a human or Neanderthal industry. Evidence currently support the idea of it being Neanderthal.

Neanderthals 'Overlapped' with Modern Humans for up to 5,400 years (2014)[]

Study produces maps of when Neanderthals died out in various places in Europe and when modern humans arrived.
Study also states that Chatelperronian Industry always followed Mousterian Industry and that it is possible that industry could have been stimulated by observed modern human behavior. An alternative theory is that the industry was produced by humans.
